ABA FIELD GUIDE / CARRY

How to choose a concealed-carry holster

Start with the actual carry condition, not the product photograph. A useful holster is specific to the firearm and, where applicable, the mounted light, optic, belt interface and intended position.

Define the configuration first

Record the firearm model, barrel length, mounted light, optic and the carry position you intend to use. Holster fitment is configuration-specific: a product that fits the base handgun may not fit it once a light or optic is present.

What to evaluate

Common errors

  • Buying by brand name or appearance rather than the exact configuration.
  • Assuming that an appendix, strong-side or duty product is interchangeable.
  • Adding accessories after purchase without confirming renewed fitment.
  • Treating an unloaded fit check as a substitute for responsible training and safe handling.
